James Jones is a leading American war novelist. His war trilogy “From Here to Eternity”, “Thin Red Line” and “Whistle” are classic examples of American war literature. The trilogy reflects the entire course of the evolution (transformation) of American young soldiers from enlisting, training, going abroad to returning to their native land. The novel narrates their confusion, struggle, pain, despair and tragedy. Works profoundly reveal the essence of the war, thought-provoking. The article reviews the ideological content, writing style, advantages and disadvantages of literature and their literary status.
