After the eruption of the Pinatubo volcano in the Philippines in 1992, all communications systems in the U.S. troops stationed in the United States were interrupted. Only FAMNET, operated by the Philippine U.S. Air Force, was working properly. It promptly briefed the families of military personnel who had withdrawn from Clarke base to Guam and other bases. The work network is networked with the U.S. Air Force Family Computer Support Center around the world. In the past it played a key role in the volcanic eruption, the sudden onset of a hurricane, and the onset of floods, which are now important daily to the U.S. Air Force dependents.
