The research adopts Halliday’s systemic-functional grammar to analyze Obama’s inaugural address. It aims to study the functions and distributions of transitivity processes occurring in the speech. By analyzing the data, we got that both material process and relational process take higher percentage expressing view of objective facts. Then it goes to mental process in the third position expressing the addresser’s personal feelings and imaginations.
