一、娄大段扩能技改工程的实践湘黔铁路从1975年元月正式运营后,运量迅速上升。到1985年,大龙口接入货运量就达到5.835Mt,按当时的列车牵引定数和列车对数计算,已达到极限能力,在超轴牵引1520t的基础上再提高蒸汽机车的牵引重量已经相当困难。在此情况下,铁路局决定在怀化至娄底间开行8对双机大列,以缓和湘黔线上行运量的压力。从当时的条件看,机车台数、车站到发线的有效长还不能满足开行8对大列的要求。分局于1986年3月成立了以总工程师为首的扩能小组,统筹湘黔线娄大段扩能技改工作。
