万家寨工程的河床和两岸的地层主要由寒武系中、上统灰岩组成。其产状平缓, 发育有规模不等的层间褶曲、穹隆及裂隙。水库右岸虽存在永久岩溶渗漏, 但由于岩溶发育程度有限和不存在集中渗漏通道, 其渗漏量不大且不会影响水库运行效益。层间剪切带是大坝的主要工程地质问题, 经设计核算, 层间剪切带抗剪强度值满足设计要求, 大坝是稳定、可靠的。
