在中国,包括英语在内的任何其他语言及其教学在通常情况下只能称为TEFL(Teaching English as Foreign Language),即把英语(教学)作为外语(教学)。只有当我们创设了一定的语言环境条件(主要是学习者周围的人使用该种外语的比例),使英语经过一定的积累,逐渐成为日常交流用的语言之一,才使英语教学从Foreign Language(外语)变为Second Language(第二语言)甚至是Bilingual(双语)。显然就英语学习者来说Bilingual(双语)是英语习得的最高层次。双语教学的最终目标是学习者能同时使用母语和英语进行思维,能在这两种语言之间根据交际对象和工作环境的需要进行自由的切换。
In China, any other language, including English, and its teaching can usually be referred to as Teaching English as Foreign Language (TEFL), that is, teaching English as a foreign language (teaching). Only when we set a certain language and environment conditions (mainly the proportion of those who use the foreign language around the learners), make English a certain accumulation, and gradually become one of the languages used in daily communication, to make English teaching from Foreign Language (Foreign language) into Second Language (even second language) or Bilingual (bilingual). Obviously Bilingual (bilingual) is the highest level of English acquisition for English learners. The ultimate goal of bilingual teaching is that learners can think in both mother tongue and English at the same time and can switch freely between the two languages according to the needs of the communicative objects and work environment.
