China’s shadow play is a form of folk drama with a long history and cultural connotation. It is a concentrated representative of China’s traditional modeling arts and performing arts, as well as an important representative of human verbal and “non-material cultural heritage.” In the performance of the use of “shadow ” as a carrier, shadow play has a particularly strong materiality. “Shadow Shadow ” modeling features and even became the most intuitive visual shadow division, the most important basis. Based on the simple styling style, some of the shadow puppets of the China Shadow Art Museum have been identified as the shadow of Chengdu. However, through careful data collection and textual research, these shadow plays are more likely to belong to the “Northern Lights” in northern Sichuan. Taking this as an example, the inherent understanding of the shadow art characteristics and genre division may be further re-considered.
