Objective To investigate the prevalence of hypertension in primary and secondary students in Shengzhou and provide the basis for the early prevention of hypertension. Methods A total of 1 720 students (851 boys and 869 girls) from 3 schools in Shengzhou City (1 in primary, 2 middle schools and 1 high school) were selected as subjects to carry out physical examination and measure height, weight and blood pressure. Results 8 to 19-year-old students overweight rate was 8.8%, obesity rate was 4.1%. The male overweight rate was 10.0%, the obesity rate was 5.3%, the female overweight rate was 8.6% and the obesity rate was 3.4%. There was significant difference between male and female overweight rate and obesity rate (P <0.01). The prevalence of hypertension among children aged 8-19 years was 3.8%, 4.7% for boys and 3.2% for girls. There was no significant difference in the prevalence of hypertension among boys and girls (P> 0.05). The blood pressure of students aged 8 to 19 showed an increasing trend with age, with obvious increase of diastolic blood pressure. And boys have a higher growth rate than girls. Body weight had a significant effect on systolic blood pressure (P <0.01). There was no significant effect of height and body mass index on systolic blood pressure (P <0.01), but body weight and body mass index had significant effects on diastolic blood pressure Clearly affected. Conclusion The blood pressure of 8 ~ 19-year-old students increases with the increase of age. Students should be regularly examined to understand the health status of students and to prevent hypertension.
