本文从翻译角度去透视《纯真年代》里的主人公纽伦·阿切尔、梅·韦兰和埃伦·奥兰斯卡的三角关系,分析当中三位主人公内心世界的话语被对方不同的翻译和误读,可以看到相爱之人的语言间能够互通、互译,而没爱之人语言间互通互译的失落,可社会的建制却逼使相爱的两人分开,社会的各种规条扼杀着人们的真正交流和真挚的感情,使人成为社会规范祭坛的牺牲品。电影中的两位女性埃伦和梅寓意着纽伦的自我认同和社会认同,而纽伦最终和梅的结合代表着纽伦在追求社会认同中失去自我和爱情。
