1965年我省扩大推广单季晚粳农垦五十八共八十二万亩。在各級党政的正确領导下,广大干部群众高举毛泽东思想紅旗,积极努力,普遍获得了大幅度增产,一般亩产七、八百斤,比当地品种增产三、五成,高的成倍增产。各地还出現了不少大面积的高产典型。例如,圩畈地区的蕪湖县保丰公社四千多亩,平均亩产八百斤左右。巢县环城公社岗岭大队六百八十五亩,平均亩产九百五十斤,其中三百三十亩亩产超千斤。江淮丘陵地区滁县滁东公社買郢大队六百三十七亩,平均亩产八百五十斤。寿县保义公社塘郢大队七百二十亩,平均亩产七百五十斤。皖南山区黟县际联公社中街生产队二十六点四亩,平均亩产八百一十四斤。泾县百元公社叶村生产队二十八亩,平均亩产九百一十二斤;淮北平原地区的凤台县示范繁殖农場二十五亩,平均亩产八百二十斤。丰产喜訊頻传,到处人心振奋,大大开闊了人們的眼界,解放了思想,原来对推广农垦五十八有“三怕”:一怕产量不高,二怕耗肥太多,三伯难掼难打。現在变成“三信”:一信农垦五十八确实高产,二信只要狠下功夫,低产能变高产,三信有了打稻机,脫粒并不难。称它是“增产稻”,是晚稻的“挂帅品种”,把扩大种植农垦五十八列为重要的增产措施。
