The belief that private space extends as a personal character is widespread in both Chinese and Western literary creation. The writing of private space in A Dream of Red Mansions is also rooted in this universal conviction and constitutes a very important part of the characters’ field of novels. The private space in A Dream of Red Mansions is deeply embedded in the overall framework of traditional residential space and is associated with a broader cultural tradition. The description of the related objects in the private space reflects that the characters of the novel follow or violate the etiquette, expand the sexual connotation of the characters in two ways, and also explain the value identity and pursuit of the characters. Through the inheritance and renewal of the existing cultural tradition, the description of the images in A Dream of Red Mansions can define, expand and even reshape the cultural connotation of the characters and their private space.
