IntroductionThe literature on groundwater and its various flow systems in mountainous areas with both crystalline and sedimentary rock formations is very limited. Previously, research tended to focus on identifying the environmental conditions which enabled rock formations to hold water. Among the most frequently studied were metamorphic / igneous rocks (e.g. Stasko, 1996; Pacheco and Alenco?o, 2002; Wu et al. 2004; Buczynski and Rzonca, 2011) and sedimentary rock formations (e.g. Tarka, 2006; Buczynski and Wcislo 2013). However, simultaneous analyses of these two types of formations and of the relationships between them are scanty (Malecki and Szostakiewicz, 2006; Earman et al., 2008; Zuber et al., 2008; Rzonca and Buczynski, 2009). This study presents the results of the research and measurements performed on the border between two different rock formations in the Sudeten Mountains (south-weste Poland).
