The document “Teaching Requirements for College English Courses” officially promulgated by the Ministry of Education in 2007 explicitly requires paying attention to the autonomous learning of English among college students and enhancing students’ ability of autonomous learning of English. However, according to a survey conducted by Xu Jinfen et al. (2004: 64-68), non-English majors generally have a low level of English learning autonomy. How to improve students’ English learning autonomy has become an urgent problem to be solved in the reform of college English teaching, and it is also one of the important topics facing foreign language researchers. Although people from all aspects of this issue were discussed,
