美国短篇小说家雪莉·杰克森的短篇小说《摸彩》历来是一部充满争议的作品。一方面,不少读者读罢该短篇小说都不免捶胸顿足,愤懑不已,抑或心头纠结,难以化解;另一方面,该短篇小说到目前为止业已引起批评界越来越广泛的关注和赞誉。这看似矛盾的现象其实均源于该短篇小说独特的叙述策略以及作者对读者心理预期的突破常规的利用。本文通过对该短篇小说叙事策略以及读者心理的分析,旨在洞悉杰克森有别于他人的精湛的短篇小说技法。
American short story artist Shirley Jackson’s short story “Touch Lottery” has always been a controversial work. On the one hand, many readers who read the short story can not help but cheat, indignantly, or tangled in heart and difficult to dissolve. On the other hand, the short story has so far attracted more and more attention and praise from critics. This seemingly contradictory phenomenon actually stems from the unique narrative strategy of the short story as well as the author’s routine use of the reader’s psychological expectations. Through the analysis of narrative strategy and reader psychology of the short story, this article aims to understand Jackson’s superb short story technique different from others.
