Several F119 engines with a common core will be fitted with four JSF scheme validator aircraft, but the fan for these engines will be different from the main engine exhaust nozzle to suit the particular aircraft configuration. Under a $ 900 million contract to be signed in the near term, Pratt & Whitney will provide engine and logistics support for the JSF solution validators from Boeing and Lockheed Martin. According to the contract, the design of these scheme verifier engines will be completed in the autumn of 1997. The first batch of engines to be tested is expected to begin its trial in early 1998 and the first propulsion system for short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) will enter the trial in the summer of 1998.
