Objective To study the related factors of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) cataract. Methods 792 NIDDM patients were examined for ocular and hematuria. The diagnosis of cataracts was carried out by Chylack et al. Results The incidence of cataract in this group of patients was 62.37%. The incidence of cataract was not related to sex but was related to the course of diabetes. There was a significant difference in the incidence of cataracts between those with a diabetes course of less than 5 years and those with a history of more than 5 years. Increased blood levels of BUN and / or Cr were indicative of impaired renal function, and the incidence of cataracts in these patients was significantly higher than that of BUN and / Or normal Cr content of diabetic patients. Conclusion NIDDM patients with prolonged course of disease, renal dysfunction and poor glycemic control can accelerate the development of cataracts.
