Eucalyptus originated in Australia, since 1804 to the field transplant. At present, 96 countries in the world have introduced and cultivated eucalyptus trees. With an area of more than 30 million mu, accounting for 2.5% of the total plantation area in the world, it has become one of the main afforestation species introduced, cultivated and fast-growing in the world. Eucalyptus was introduced and cultivated for nearly one hundred years in our country. As early as the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, Italians sent eucalypts to the Western Empire, saying that they were “trees protected from mosquitoes, blessed and safe”, hence the name “An Shu.” Later introduced sporadically by overseas Chinese to Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macao and other places. 1898 Guangzhou Lingnan University (now Sun Yat-sen University) cultivated a variety of eucalyptus campus. However, there is a written account of “Eucalyptus,” which was translated by Wu Zongli, the messenger of the Yi (now Italy) ambassador during the reign of Xuan Tong (see photo 1-4).
