In this retrospective article, the author focuses on the issues that require the use of kinetic methods for structural stability and supercritical behavior. They include the following dynamic instabilities: (1) parametric excitation vibrations; (2) structural response under impact loading; (3) air-elastic and fluid-elastic induced dynamic instability; (4) Structural response under dynamic force; (5) instability of gas or liquid pipelines; (6) instability of the rotor due to rotational friction or related factors; (7) vortex-induced instability; The fracture as a kind of dynamic instability. This article focuses on the early development of history, pioneering research, and basic concepts, especially those that have been controversial in the past but are still somewhat instructive in some aspects to this day. In the meantime, we discuss some recent results and future research prospects.
