Reading really plays an important role in our junior’s English learning. For students they often lose many points in reading examinations. When asked why they fail in this part， most of them just said： I don’t understand what the passage means. YES！ This is the key point， which makes our English teacher very confused. As far as I am concerned， here are three points may help us to cope with the big headache.
1. Help students to build up interests.
There is no doubt that interests are the best teachers， but how to arouse their interests？ Listening to music is really a good idea， but to be careful to care the singers’ pronunciations， maybe such as Lemon tree My heart will go on or Yesterday once more are good choices. Another way is to watch English movies with beautiful conversations for example Forrest Gump Spider-Man or Men in Black. As there are plenty of choices that we can choose from. It is a key point for our teacher to choose different kinds of music and movies that are fit for different levels of students.
2.Ways to improve students’ reading
Firstly. Scanning is a sharp way to get the general idea of the whole passage. When students are given a new passage， they should be asked to read the passage as quickly as they could by missing the new words that have nothing to do with their comprehensions.
Secondly .Extensive reading. This is an important step which they’d better read as carefully as they can， do remember to pay more attention to read with their minds not just to read. Make sure they have understood the meaning of the whole passage， Underline the fantastic words and beautiful phrases is a must. It is up to them if they eager to know the use of the new words and phrases they could look them up in the dictionary. Sometimes it is necessary for them to recite some key words and sentences which is benefit for their English learning.
Thirdly.Litening to the tape is another great way to improve students’ reading comprehensions. Take half an hour to listen to tapes a day， day by day and year after year .Ensure to read after the tape， try to understand each word， phrase and passage. Don’t pursue speed， what is important is whether they understand it or not.
3. Develop a good learning habit.
Make sure what we have expected the students to be done. Students may make a list to set daily and weekly goals for themselves. It is not unusual for them to spend an hour to read a day .At the same time ， while as their interest grows， they may be allowed to read at a limited time to improve their speed and reading quanities.Lost time is more than lost money， as time goes by， we will be astonished that the students have made such a great process in reading.
All in all， reading is often regard as the main part of English learning .As for me， I pay much attention to it and I hope my ideas about this part will make a little contribution to your learning. Good wishes to you.
