There are 328,000 workers on the French railway, and there are 28,000 seasonal workers. The railway is 38550 km long. There are 3,502 steam locomotives, 1939 electric locomotives, 988 diesel locomotives, 1634 electric and diesel vehicles, 15290 passenger cars, 287,400 vans and some special purpose vehicles. In the next eight years, all steam locomotives will be totally scrapped and 10,000 trucks will be scrapped each year. From 1946 to 1965 the railroad was extensively remodeled.
