“,”Objective:To detect the expression of sperm-associated antigen 5 (SPAG5) in pancreatic cancer tissues, and to explore the relationship between SPAG5 and the clinical prognosis of pancreatic cancer. To explore the possibility of SPAG5 as a potential biomarker for pancreatic cancer. Methods:The bioinformatics method was used to analyze the mRNA level of SPAG5 in pancreatic cancer tissues and normal tissues adjacent to the cancer, and to analyze the relationship between its expression and the survival rate of pancreatic cancer patients. The clinicopathological data of 94 patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent surgical treatment were retrospectively analyzed. Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression level of SPAG5 protein in pancreatic cancer tissues and normal tissues adjacent to the cancer, and to analyze its relationship with clinicopathological characteristics of patients with pancreatic cancer. Results:The results of bioinformatics analysis showed that SPAG5 mRNA is significantly highly expressed in pancreatic cancer tissues and is significantly correlated with the overall survival rate and disease-free survival rate of patients. The results of immunohistochemistry showed that the expression of SPAG5 in pancreatic cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in normal tissues adjacent to cancer. The high expression of SPAG5 in pancreatic cancer tissue is related to tumor stage, tumor size and lymph node metastasis (all n P0.05).n Conclusions:The expression of SPAG5 is significantly related to the progression of pancreatic cancer. Targeting SPAG5 may become a new treatment method for pancreatic cancer. SPAG5 may serve as a new potential biomarker for pancreatic cancer.
