我决定参观金字塔之前,去拜访了法国总领事,问问他对这个行程的意见。他一定要和我一起去,于是我们就相携前往老开罗。我觉得他路上郁郁不欢,我们穿越卡拉非平原时,他干咳得很厉害。我知道他很久以来就生病,他自己说,至少想在死之前看看金字塔。我以为他夸大了病情;可是我们到尼罗河岸时,他对我说:“我已经觉得累了,我想待在这儿。乘我准备好的船吧:我的眼睛跟着您,我相信就是和您在一起了。
Before I decided to visit the Pyramid, I visited the Consul General of France and asked him his opinion on the itinerary. He must go with me, so we’ll take to Cairo. I think he was unhappy on the road and he had a very good cough when we crossed the Karrapa Plain. I know he has been ill for a long time, and he himself says that at least he wants to see the pyramid before he dies. I thought he exaggerated his illness; but when we got to the bank of the Nile, he said to me: ”I feel so tired, I want to stay here. Take my boat ready: My eyes follow you, and I believe it is With you.
