In Japanese,there are a larger amount of emotional adjectives expressing negative emotions than those expressing positive emotions.Similarly,there are a great many negative emotional adjectives that have synonymous relations;therefore,to learners who are not native speakers,it is difficult to understand the subtle emotional feelings espressed by them.Taking three emotional adjectives,「うっとうしい」「わずらわしい」「めんどうくさい」,which have synonymous relations,as subjects of study,through specific examples,this article aims at investigating their respective meaning and usage,the difference among their meanings and also the subtle difference of the feelings that they express.Hope that this study could be helpful to Japanese learners.
