1930—1945年是都市小说的繁盛期,本时期都市小说作品中存在着大量的建筑意象。经过文学的修饰,这些建筑意象具有了美学意义,构成了独特的建筑符号。以穆时英为代表的新感觉派作家通过现代化的建筑书写,还原了上海生存的摩登、颓废状态以及上海的消费现状,以茅盾为代表的左翼作家借助建筑书写传达了对殖民主义的批判,以张爱玲为代表的40年代作家借助建筑书写传达出上海独有的小资情调,以周天籁为代表的底层作家借助建筑书写诉出生存的艰辛与凄凉。这些建筑通过自身的实用功能给作品中的人物提供了生存、活动的空间,在人物交往活动的基础之上又升华出人世间的喜怒哀乐。

The underwriters represented by Zhou Teresara resorted to architectural writing to appeal for the hardships and bleakness of existence. These buildings, through their own practical functions, provide the characters in the works with the space for survival and activity. They also elevate the emotions of the world on the basis of the activities of the characters.
