托马斯·科尔(Thomas Cole,1801—1848)的画作《生命的旅程》系列(1840-1842)类比了人生的四个阶段:童年、青年、成年和老年。在每幅画作中,旅者的小船在守护神的陪伴下行驶在生命的河流上,画中的风景与一年四季相对应,也对应了人生的四个阶段;每一幅画中船头的方向都与上一幅中的相反,放在一起就象征了生命之河的曲折迂回。婴儿的船只在天使的陪伴下,从黑暗的洞穴驶向郁郁葱葱的景色当中(封面);青年人自己控制小船的方向,驶向天空中闪光
Thomas Cole (1801-1848)’s “The Journey of Life” series (1840-1842) analogizes the four stages of life: childhood, youth, adulthood, and old age. In each painting, the traveler’s boat, accompanied by the patron saint of the river of life, corresponds to the four seasons of life in each of the four seasons. Each picture shows the bow In the opposite direction from the previous one, put together a symbol of the twists and turns of the river of life. The baby’s boat, accompanied by the angels, sails from the dark cave into the lush landscape (cover); young people control the direction of the boat and glide into the sky
