Objective To understand the prevalence of body mass index and diet-related behaviors among students in Suzhou University, and to provide basis for adopting corresponding nutrition education measures. Methods A stratified cluster random sampling method was used to investigate the diet-related behaviors among students in Suzhou University. The body mass index was used to evaluate the nutritional status. Results The surveyed students accounted for 17.4% of underweight and overweight and obesity accounted for 5.8%. There were significant differences in bad eating behavior among students with different body mass index. People who overweight and obesity did not eat breakfast, they had a higher percentage of eating street vendors and drinking love drinks, while people who underweight had a higher percentage of partial eclipse. The correct rate of self-evaluation of body weight was low, which was 53.1%. There were more girls taking measures to control weight than boys. Conclusion Poor dietary behaviors and wrong evaluation of their body weight may be the reason for abnormal body mass index of college students. Nutritional education should be conducted for college students on dietary behaviors and weight control.
