车辆速度愈来愈高,对车辆各部件性能的要求也更高。研究制动用金属摩擦材料,主要是如何提高摩擦性能、延长寿命。在最高速度超过100km/h的特快车辆上,首先要提高铸铁闸瓦的摩擦性能;其它车辆上的重点课题是改善耐磨性能、延长闸瓦寿命。目前,一般的内燃动车和客货车辆已实际应用高锰铸铁和高磷铸铁等特殊铸铁闸瓦,这种闸瓦比过去普通铸铁闸瓦的寿命长2~3倍。但是,机车的闸瓦压强高,使用该特殊铸铁闸瓦,其耐磨性、耐裂损性以及对车辆的影响等还需要改善,要研究一种能适合机车用的长寿命闸瓦。
