Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is beyond doubt the most advanced language teaching approach in the new era. Yet, it was treated coldly in China at the outset. After over two decades of reform and trial, Chinese educators become aware that CLT does not clash but complement with Chinese traditional teaching methods if used selectively and flexibly. To stimulate further research on adapting CLT appropriately to Chinese EFL classroom, the author hereby shares with all the measures she has taken to meet the challenges in teaching speaking with CLT.
