The system studied in this paper is a water resource system located on the right bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Its main functions are: farmland irrigation, drainage and urban water supply. The system’s main control hub consists of a reservoir, three diversion gates (from the Yangtze River) and two power stations. The reservoir water level is subject to multiple constraints and the effective storage capacity is limited, which can not meet the needs of irrigation water and urban water supply.
