  【Abstract】 Translation is a tool in international communication, and is also one of the tasks for English teaching. The article introduce the relationship between translation and college English teaching from translation theory, translation practice and translation method. 

   I Introduction
  Since we are engage in translation job, the research about it is continuous. For the features and standard of translation, there are many mature achievements, so I prefer to discuss some points about the relation between the translation and teaching. With the strengthening of global economic integration, China's accession to WTO and the deepening of reform and opening up, the community of professional translators have become increasingly demanding. "College English Curriculum Requirements" (draft) is in listening, speaking, writing, translation and other capabilities at three levels (normal, higher, higher) made a clear request. However, in the current college English teaching practice, there is no set of specialized translation courses, there is no common language for the translation of teaching materials, students usually do not detect the test translation capability. 
   To students of translation ability is an important teaching college English teaching one of the goals. Current college English teaching guidelines emphasize the importance of reading over the lack of the necessary translation curriculum; there is no specific teaching of non-English translation; College English Translation arrangements have greater tendency to arbitrary and subjective, teaching is not ideal. In response to this widespread problem, there are many English teachers with teaching practice, teaching college English translation of the status quo of the improvements have taken appropriate reform measures, such as further revised syllabus, the existing English textbooks revised, additional non-English translation course and other students. English translation in order to change the status of classes not taken seriously, CET increased Questions sentence test items within the Chinese to English, translation of the reform measures on the importance of teaching has played a positive role. However, in general, teaching effectiveness is not satisfactory. Translated from the student's usual work and multiple translation test results, a considerable majority of students in the translation capacity deficiencies, such as a lack of coherence in discourse, with errors, grammatical structures, logical expression of confusion or the very existence of Chinese and so on, these problem with a certain universality. Get to the bottom up, I found that the main theory of the translation of basic knowledge and skills commonly caused by lack of. The results show that in the regular English teaching, five kinds of lack of coordination between skills training, teaching the full range of needs overall planning guidelines. In addition, a number of teaching college English class compression, in the limited time in the classroom is difficult to achieve a real sense of the translation, the objective conditions will be difficult to ensure capacity-building into the overall translation process of teaching. Finally, a large workload of college English teaching, the school has been emphasizing research, often correcting the translation of student work is to provide only the standard answer, do not try to answer further inspire students to translate the non-uniqueness of the debate. 
   Teaching English translation help improve the teaching quality and efficiency. College English teaching can be translated to test whether students understand the place, and thus problem-solving doubts. Because the translation of two languages is the essence of the code conversion, the process has to understand, express, proofreading three steps, in particular, need to mobilize the translator of the two languages, cultural understanding skills. Only the correct understanding of the original, can we talk about the expression of the press.   II. Translation theory has effect on college English teaching 
  1. language theory and standards
  Translation is an act of transform meanings by using one language to another one. In a way, translation is not an act, but it is an act, because it involved different languages, cultures and local customs. A famous Chinese writer called Mao dun who believed literature translation is like an actor, you must try to create the character with its own voice and artistic knowledge, and the character must match the author’s propose. For the standards, we haven’t a correct and universal one. In other words, it can be many different kinds of standards. 
  2. the role in college teaching 
  In traditional teaching method, translation is a way to learn
  English, but with develop of communicating teaching method, college English teaching seems to emphasize the ability of listening, speaking, not the original one-translation. Since the TEM4 add the translation part, people remember the importance of translation again. In broader sense, translation is useful in every aspect of English learning. There are more and more international activities hold in China, Beijing Olympic Game in the year of 2008, Shanghai World Expo in 2010, and Guangzhou Asia Games in 2010 and so on. All these activities need translation volunteers. In a word, translation plays an important role in teaching. 
  III. Practicing and cultivating translation in college English teaching. 
  1. The relationship between translation and college English teaching.
  The aim for English learner is communication. Nowadays, there needs to be many translation people. You can improve your translation ability by accepting translation teaching. Translation requires not only translation skills and method, but also both English and Chinese expressions and some ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing. To regain above ability, we must producing translation teaching. Recent years, with the development of economic, there is more and more interaction of people all over the world, translation plays a key role in communication. Translation is not only appears in our daily life, but also in the exams of various field. In this situation, college English teaching must be improved. In our teaching process, accumulation of translation skills day by day is quite important. In contract, I believed we should use some sentence for example to explain how to use translation method, and using grammar as the key clue, the vocabulary and syntax as the clue. Try to contract the cultural difference between Chinese and western country in the teaching process. College teacher should make a teaching plan, combining the typical words, sentences and texts to teach the translation skills. And more important is giving plenty English-to-Chinese translation exercise to the students. It will receive great benefit in the process of exercises; student will understand these skill and theory more clearly. And in the process of teaching we should pay attention to the teaching students according to their own ability. 
  2. Translation skills and steps
  1) some problems of translation
  In the process of translation, the translated meaning should according to the original language, but we should make translation text smooth and clear. For example, “He is seriously ill. “ We can translate this stance into “ 他病的很厲害”。But we can’t translate it into “他苟延馋喘”. We can’t change the original meaning of the text just because to add some new elements. Neither adds some new meanings nor deletes some original meanings. In order to let the translation smooth and easy to understand, we must try to transfer some implicit information that are suitable to Chinese tradition.
  We must avoid translate the sentence in the literal meaning vividly. For example, “He addiction completed the list.” Someone translated this sentence into “ 他的加入结束了名单。或他的加入完成了名单.” If we translate it into “把他添上名单(上的人)就全了。” is more suitable to the Chinese language use. Therefore, the translation process can be divided into three steps; understanding the original meaning, expressing it into target language and checking the text.
  2) translation steps
  ⑴ understanding 
   Understanding is the premise of express, so we should follow these steps: firstly, scan the whole sentence, try to know the general meaning; the purpose is to understand the content and the logical relationship between the translation part and other part in the text. Make clear about demonstrative pronoun such as it, them, they, these, and those. For example: “It is not that the scales in the one case, and the balance in the other, differ in the principles of their construction or manner of working, but the latter is much finer apparatus and of course much more accurate in its measurement than the former.” 
  Secondly, analysis the sentence, such as find the main sentence and some clause modified it. Sometimes the phrase in the clause should translate from the original passive sense to positive sense. For example, the man is reported to have said in private that ‘we are being made fools of by many of our clients, so we are entitled to have them bow to us as compensation.’ (second edition) In this sentence the object clause is a direct speech. We should translate it into positive sense. “ 据报道这个男子曾在私下说:“许多救济对象欺骗我们。因此作为补偿,我们有权让他们对我们点头哈腰。”To much degree, they are the natural outcome of the working people life and experience, for example, “plough the sands” is actually about agriculture; “ to know the ropes” is from the ropes” is from navigation; “Neck and neck “is out of horse racing. 
  2)express
  ⑴ word-for-word translation 
  It is a way which translates the sentence directly. In some cases, Chinese and English have many mutual points. This method is quite easy than the second one, that is free translation. In the process of translation, we can choose word-for-word method, it only not keep the original structure, but also express clearly about the original meaning. But one point is very important, that is word-for-word translation is not a way of vivid translation. 
  ⑵ free translation 
   There are many different points between Chinese and English, because they are belonging to two language system. So we can’t translate each sentence with direct method. For example, “Do you see any green in my eye?” we should translate it into “你覺得我是好欺骗的吗?” Of course, free translation is not translating with your own will, and can’t reach the translation standard. In the actual translation process, we should keep an active mind, whatever using free translation or word-for-word translation; we must follow the rule of translation- smooth and accurate. 
  3) Check
  After finishing the above two steps, we should check the sentence in the aspects of time, date, number, direction and some mistakes. Or maybe you will have some other mistakes such as punctuation. In the translated Chinese text, whether there are some words, phrase or sentences which are not very clear expression. 
  IV. Conclusion 
  The above article mainly analysis the features of translation and the applicability in college English teaching. For the translation part, most students still mastered in the primary level and needed teachers to lead. Translation is the second creation, it also be a psychology process. Through the translation teaching in the college teaching, we can learn more skills and regain better communication and understanding.
