柴油机输出的功率,是靠柴油在气缸内产生的热能,再通过气体膨胀转变为机械功而获得的.要提高柴油机的功率,就必须向气缸内喷入更多的柴油,并使它充分燃烧.但是,只考虑向气缸内多喷入柴油是不够的,因为柴油燃烧需要空气.增加供油量的同时,必须相应地增加吸入气缸的空气量,即增加气缸内新鲜空气的密度,提高进气管内的吸气压力,这样才能使柴油充分燃烧,发动机功率才能提高;否则会冒烟,产生消化不良现象.目前常用的增压方法有三种1.涡轮增压:利用柴油机的废气来驱动废气涡轮,然后由废气涡轮带动压气机,将新鲜空气经过压缩后输入柴油机的气缸.
