This paper records the somatosensory evoked potential of the upper extremities in 144 normal adults, 100 of whom are in the age group of over 50 years old (80 males and 20 females) and 44 under the age of 50 (22 males and 22 females). The median nerve is stimulated and the supraclavicular potential is recorded from the stimulus side and the contents within 50 ms of the hemisphere are recorded and analyzed from the contralateral scalp. As a result, the greater the variation of each wave in the hemisphere, the greater the wave peak latent latency of men aged over 50 was longer than those under 50 years of age, and men were longer than those of women. There was no significant difference in peak latency of wave among women of all age groups Sex. The authors consider that age and gender differences should be noted when testing somatosensory evoked potentials in patients with neurological disorders.
