丹托出版于一九九二年的文集Beyond the Brillo Box(《越过布里洛盒子》)中,有一篇谈中国画及传统的文章:“Shapes of Artistic Pasts,East and West”(艺术的过去形态,东方与西方)。文章写于一九八九年,他因去纽约大都会博物馆,看到一张清代画家万上遴(1739~1813)的画,有感而发。万上遴那幅画,是模仿倪云林的《龙门僧图》,题跋上这么写道:“倪高士《龙门僧图》,余曾见两帧,一在都门瑶华道人处,一在药洲中丞处,真假皆不可辨,而都有数笔法心窃识之,阅八九年于今矣。今庚申九月
Danto’s Beyond the Brillo Box, a 1992 collection, contains an article on Chinese painting and tradition: ”Shapes of Artistic Pasts, East and West“ Past form, East and West). Written in 1989, he was inspired to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to see a painting by Wan Ting Lin (1739 ~ 1813) from Qing Dynasty. The painting by Wan liseng is a ”monk figure of the monk“ that imitates Ni Yunlin.
