The authors compared the accuracy of ultrasound and CT diagnosis of chest wall and pleural invasion in 34 cases of primary lung cancer in the chest wall. The mean accuracy of ultrasonic diagnosis of pleural involvement in the parietal and visceral layers was 62%, and CT was 74%. Both ultrasound and CT tend to overestimate the lesions. In 13 patients, ultrasound did not make an accurate diagnosis, and 69.2% had a pleural depression. Cases of misvaluation during surgery were also those with pleural indentation.
