Introduction The concept of Ts cells has had a tremendous impact on both immunology and clinical medicine. Some diseases, such as hypersensitivity and autoimmune diseases, are thought to be caused by the absence of Ts. Other diseases, such as immune deficiency, are thought to be the result of excessive Ts. Even the basic concept of immunology, such as immune tolerance, the distinction between “self” and “non-self” is often considered to be regulated by the fine balance between inhibiting cells and autoreactive T and B cells.
