In a recent Warren study monograph entitled “Loneliness to God: Robert Penn Warren and the Southern Exiles”, the critic Nuan Di Hendrix isolated from Warren’s work a common theme in Southern literature - Exile theme. In the study, Hendrix traces the cultural and historical origins of this theme in Southern literature, analyzes its deep relationship with Warren’s southern consciousness and places Warren’s work in different stages of American literary history, Reveals the writer’s heritage and development of this literary theme. The study of Hendrix re-examines Warren’s literary works from a new perspective, further reveals the broadness and diversity of Warren’s works, and opens up a new perspective of Warren’s research.
