OBJECTIVES: To understand the similarities and differences in the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of RSV and HRV among hospitalized children with ALRTI. Methods: NPA samples of hospitalized children with ALRTI from September 2007 to August 2008 were collected for viral nucleic acid detection. The prevalence and clinical features of RSV and HRV were analyzed statistically. Results: There were 315 cases (27.0%) of RSV detected in 1165 children and 202 cases of HRV (17.3%). There was no significant difference in the detection rate between the sexes. The average age of children with RSV was 13.1 ± 14.3 months and under 1 year old The detection rate was the highest, and was significantly higher than the same age detection rate of HRV; HRV detection of children with an average age of 15.8 ± 17.8 months, 1-year-old detection rate was highest, and higher than the same age RSV detection rate; RSV detection From November to February of the following year as the peak; HRV detected in April, September to December as the peak; compared with RSV, HRV clinical features detected in addition to peripheral blood leukocyte count increased more than the other without There were more complications of RSV mixed with other viruses and more peripheral blood leukocyte counts than those detected by single RSV. No other cyanosis was detected in the single HRV, and the other clinical features were similar to those of other viruses No difference in cases. Conclusion: RSV and HRV are the important pathogens of ALRTI hospitalized children in Changsha area. There are differences in age and season distribution between RSV and HRV. There is no significant difference in clinical features.
