Wheel idling is one of many issues that the Electro-Mechanical Division (EMD) engineers at General Motors did not address over the long term. Now, what is being tested is a new locomotive bogie that was first designed for a growing new SD electric drive diesel locomotive. Increase the adhesion between the wheel and rail, will completely eliminate the idle energy consumption. HT-C (HT stands for high traction; C stands for a new three-axle bogie (Figure 1) instead of a standard SD bogie and is being used on new locomotives in research trials .EMD engineers say it has two important features that will cause Locomotive drivers and maintenance personnel attention: (1) adhesion performance than the SD bogie has greatly improved (2) wheel thick 42 when the wheels have a longer service life.
