Translated from “Literature 1980” (Selected by the Japanese Artists Association in 1980, published by Kodansha). This novel is the author’s true portrayal of the morbid state of the unfortunate family and his mother’s later years. In his delicate and hearty tone, the novel holds a deep grief to the stubborn mother. A mother wants to arrest. Everything that touched the tip of her right finger, whatever: her own pajamas, the undershirts in the pajamas, the diapers wrapped in the waist, the blankets covered with quilts, the sheets that were laid on, the tape under the sheets, and the cushions underneath. Must be caught. Occasionally, a needle stuck on a broken left arm is not even missed with an adhesive tape.
