Nitrogen is one of the most important factors to promote crop yield. However, the large amount of nitrogen fertilizer not only increases agricultural production costs, but also causes environmental problems such as soil acidification and water eutrophication. The team led by Researcher Chu Chengcai, Institute of Genetics and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences, made a major breakthrough in the study of rice nitrogen use efficiency improvement.
