名列世界第三的叠合梁斜拉桥——上海市南浦大桥,经过7千名大桥建设者历时3载的艰苦拼搏,终于在1991年11月19日全面建成,12月1日正式通车.南浦大桥位于南市区南码头地区,是上海市区第一座跨黄浦江大桥.大桥全长8346米,通航净高46米.可通行5.5万吨级巨轮,主桥为双塔双索面叠合梁斜拉桥结构,主孔跨径423米,位居世界同类桥梁之三.桥塔为折线H型钢筋混凝土结构,塔高154米,每座桥塔两侧各有22对钢拉索连接主梁,索面成扇形布置.塔座基础选用直径914毫米、深达50米的钢管桩群桩基础.主桥设6条机动车道,日通行能力可达4.5—5万辆机动车.主桥两侧各有2米宽人行道供观光游览.桥面总宽度为30.35米.
