我国过去一直沿用石油沥青油毡做建筑防水层,这种做法要热施工,劳动条件差,质量也比较难保证,低温时会脆裂,高温时会流淌,容易产生起鼓、老化、龟裂、腐烂、渗漏等质量问题。不少工程在使用一段时间后往往会出现不同程度的屋面漏雨、厕所卫生间漏水、大板建筑板缝以及地下室渗漏等现象,给人民生活造成很大的不便,使建筑物的使用功能和使用寿命受到严重影响。为了改变上述状况,增加防水材料的品种,北京市建工研究所从1974年开始进行聚醚型聚氨酯类防水材料的研究,到1980年研制成功了弹性好、耐水、抗老化性能优良的聚氨酯煤焦油涂膜防水材料,当年10月通过技术鉴定,并荣获北京市1980年的科技成果奖。这项成果1980年首先用在北京燕京饭店
