Despite a lack of understanding of India, some Chinese businessmen recognize that India is a huge consumer market. Lacey Patil, who came to Beijing in 2008, is one of only four correspondents in India to print media. Her “Stranger Across Borders: Indians Encountered Emerging China” spoke in great detail about the lives of both China and India. From the Indian perspective, the most interesting part of the book is Chinese ignorance of India. Patil visited a center in Beijing dedicated to promoting cricket and found that athletes had never heard of cricket stars in India, had not heard of Cricket World Cup, and even preferred to play table tennis.
