According to British magazine “Mechanical Market” reports. Since the beginning of 1994, as the international community lifted sanctions against South Africa, the demand for machine tools in the domestic market in South Africa has expanded. South Africa has begun to obtain loans from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. In addition, large-scale turnkey projects have begun to infiltrate the machine tool industry. These projects include Alushav aluminum plant, Columbus stainless steel plant and Namakwa Sands, and mining industry (such as MOAB and East Vaal) part of the expansion project. Chemical large-scale expansion projects, such as oil smelting projects, will invest 6.5 billion rand by 1996, which will increase output from the current 330,000 barrels per day to 450,000 barrels per day. Although the direct demand for machine tools from the aforementioned expansion project will not be large, the relevant contractors and subcontractors plan to purchase new equipment.
