Based on the multi-project comprehensive scientific investigation data of three sections of the Xiangyang-Hong-5 survey vessel near 2 ° S and 1 55 ° E during the TOGA COARE IOP period, the thermal status of the western Pacific warm pool waters was analyzed . The results show that during the TO-GA COARE IOP, the thermal status of the western Pacific warm pool has characteristics before the El Nino event. For the average segment, the depth of the warm pool, the depth of the upper ocean mixed layer and the average temperature of the water layer from the sea surface to the water layer of 2 60 m are all decreased sequentially by the flight segment. The thermal condition before this El Nino incident occurred was the result of the prevailing wind direction of the sea surface in the area turning into westerly winds and strengthening of the eastward flow and loss of warm water. In addition, there are also some days to tens of days of changes in local thermal conditions caused by changes in local ocean-atmosphere coupling.
