The heterosis of hybrid between indica andjaponica rice hag been attracting the interest ofrice breeders.But there is no significant progressfor years due to the barrier in crosscompatibility.The discovery and utilization ofwide compatibility varieties(WCVs),however,has brought a new hope to rice breeders.Itwould be useful to identify the carrier of widecompatibility gene(WCG),if some biochemicalmarkers could be found.
