林白水1874年出生于福建省侯县青圃村,是我国历史上第一个出国攻读新闻学的人。林白水早年参加过孙中山领导的同盟会,积极参加反清活动,一生爱国爱民、坚持革命。从1901年开始办报到1926年被杀害期间,他先后在近10家报纸从事主编、编辑和撰稿工作,是当时新闻界与邵飘萍齐名的人物,被誉为报界先驱。1985年,国家民政部追认林白水为革命烈士。其女(旅美华人、美国国防大学教授)林慰君捐资在故乡建立纪念堂、纪念碑。林白水教过书、办过学、从过政,但就其一生来看,主要还是办报。自1901年他27岁出任
Lin Baishui was born in 1874 in Qingpu Village, Hou County, Fujian Province, and was the first person in history in China to study journalism abroad. In his early years, Lin Baishui took part in the alliance led by Sun Yat-sen and took an active part in the anti-Qing activity, patriotic and loving his people throughout his life and upholding the revolution. From 1901 to 1926, he was the editor, editor and contributor of nearly 10 newspapers. During the period, he was the famous figure of the press at the time and was praised as the pioneer of the press. In 1985, the Ministry of Civil Affairs ratified Linbai Shui as a revolutionary martyr. His daughter (US-Chinese, US National Defense University professor) Lin Jung-jun donated money to build memorials and monuments in her hometown.
