Geologists hope to speed up the construction of a new global seismograph network of highly sensitive seismograph stations that monitor global earthquakes with unprecedented accuracy, following the devastating earthquake in Armenia in the Soviet Union. At present, at least seven larger national and international seismograph networks are under construction. These are composed of many stations with new digital recording facilities. Scientists working on the design of the new network say they will not only provide more accurate and timely earthquake prediction but will also reveal the nature of the interior of the planet and the force that keeps the continent moving. Scientists say the design of these new Web sites has been around for years and some are nearing completion. However, due to lack of funding, some well-designed and valuable projects have been cut off. Scientists hope that the horrific earthquake in Armenia will prompt people to give more
