Recently, a batch of letters written by Huang Binhong to my father Bao Junbai was found from the Anhui Provincial Museum. Most of these letters were written in the mid-1940s and Binh Hung was housed in Peiping at the time. Each of these letters discusses the related issues of Chinese landscape painting. From these precious letters, we can get a glimpse of Huang Binghong’s painting theory in his later years. At present, the mutual influence between Chinese landscape painting and Western landscape painting is gradually arousing the interest of the fine arts circles.
