本市山丘地占地面积的70%以上,其中土层不足20厘米深的山区旱薄地约250万亩。目前甘薯又多分布在这些旱薄地上。其地块特点是:土层浅(土层以下多为铺板石或酥石硼),土质多为粗砾砂土,土壤贫瘠,再加上蓄水量少,形成典型的山区旱薄地,三伏天成为三日无雨小旱,五日无雨大旱的局面,因此产量低而不稳,常年甘薯产量徘徊在亩产1,500公斤左右。但通过综合技术的开发证明,这些山区旱薄地的甘薯产量也可以大幅度增产。经近三年的开发,面积为2万余亩,平均单产增加831.25公斤,为57.74%,总产增加4033.8万公斤,经济收入增加322.7万元。其中大幅度增产的技术措施主要有以下几个方面:
